The results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school applicants in 2024 have been made public by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) of the 1,805,216 candidates, 215,267, or 11.92 percent, are still being withheld.
Examinee misconduct was the reason behind the withholding of the 215,267 results, according to Amos Dangut, the head of WAEC in Nigeria.
On Monday, August 12, the results were released to the candidates via the examination body’s official X account.
“It is with great pleasure that the West African Examinations Council notifies those who took the WASSCE for school candidates, 2024, that the results are officially available today, Monday, August 12, 2024,” the notification stated.
Of the 1,805,216 candidates who took the test, 73.79 percent passed with credit or higher in at least five subjects.
Candidates can apply for their digital certificates 48 hours after viewing their results, which are accessible online.
Dangut has previously disclosed that, of the 1.8 million pupils who took the test, 902,328 (or 49.7%) were men and 912,016 (or 50.3%) were women.
Nigeria, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Liberia hosted the exams. Compared to 2023, when the withholding rate was 16.29 percent, the results for 2024 indicate a decrease in withheld results.
Furthermore, Dangut noted that investigations are being conducted into matters like organized cheating and the usage of cell phones during exams. Additionally, the applicants who will be impacted by these decisions will be informed through their respective schools.
