University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) Postgraduate Admission Form 2025
The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has opened the application portal for its 2025/2026 postgraduate admissions. If you’re looking to advance your studies through a Diploma, Master’s, M.Phil., or Ph.D. programme, this is your window of opportunity.
The academic session is set to begin on October 2, 2025, and will run through September 30, 2026.

Programmes Available & Entry Paths

1. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
- Eligibility:
Candidates must have a relevant Master’s degree (M.A., M.Ed., M.Eng., M.Sc., LL.M., or M.P.H.) with at least 60% or a 4.0 CGPA out of 5.0. - Duration:
- Full-Time: 3 to 5 years (36–60 months)
- Part-Time: 4 to 6 years (48–72 months)
- Requirement:
A dissertation based on original research is mandatory.
2. M.Phil./Ph.D. (Transition Programme)
- Who Can Apply:
Those who score between 55% and 59.99%, or have a CGPA between 3.5 and 3.99, in their Master’s degree. - Duration:
- Full-Time Only: 12–24 months
- Pathway:
If the student earns 60% at the end of the first year, they can move into the full Ph.D. programme.
3. Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.)
- Eligibility:
Students who earned 50% to 54.99% or a CGPA between 3.0 and 3.49 in their Master’s programme. - Duration:
- Full-Time: 18–24 months
- Outcome:
Students must complete a supervised research project.
4. Master’s Degree Programmes (M.A., M.Sc., M.Ed., LL.M., M.Eng., M.P.H.)
- Duration:
- Full-Time: 18–24 months
- Part-Time: 36–48 months
- Completion Requirements:
Coursework and a research project or thesis are both required.
5. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
- Who Qualifies:
Candidates with a Third-Class Degree in relevant fields. - Completion:
Coursework-based. A diploma certificate is issued upon completion.
Application Guidelines & Eligibility Rules
Before applying, make sure you tick all the boxes below:
General Requirements for All Applicants
- Your academic certificates should be ready before applying.
- NYSC Certificate or Exemption Letter must be available by 30th September 2025.
- All documents must be scanned and uploaded online.
- Hard copies (including printed forms and credentials) must be submitted to your selected department by 6th June 2025.
- Academic transcripts should be sent directly to the department. The university won’t be responsible for missing documents.
O’Level Requirements
- Minimum of five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics.
- If you completed your O’Level before 2015, you only need a credit in either English or Maths.
For Master’s Programmes
- Must have a second-class lower degree from UNILORIN or any other recognized university.
- If applying outside your original discipline, you’ll need to take and pass a qualifying test.
For Ph.D. Applicants
- Must hold a relevant Master’s degree with minimum 60% or 4.0 CGPA.
- Candidates may be invited for an interview.
For International Students
- Applicants from non-English speaking countries must submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.
- If you’re applying from outside Nigeria, you’re not required to take the local entrance exam.
Qualifying Exam
- PGD and Master’s applicants must sit for a qualifying examination.
- Exemption: UNILORIN graduates with First-Class or Second-Class Upper in the same field.

- Nigerian Applicants: ₦25,000
- International Applicants: $200
