University Of Ilorin (UNILORIN) Eases Rules On Late Collection Of Certificates
In a move that brings relief to many of its graduates, the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has temporarily suspended the penalty fees tied to late collection of academic certificates.
The announcement was made official in a memo dated April 24, 2025, and signed by the university’s Registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla, FCIML.
According to the notice, the revised arrangement kicked off on April 22, 2025, and will remain in effect until June 2, 2025.
What’s Changing?
Up until recently, graduates who delayed picking up their certificates past January 17, 2025, were being fined ₦3,000 every week. This weekly penalty quickly piled up—by late April, many owed as much as ₦39,000 in late fees.
Faced with an influx of appeals from former students, their families, and well-meaning supporters, the university’s management decided to temporarily waive the penalty. This six-week window gives graduates a chance to collect their certificates without paying a dime extra.
Why It Matters
Many graduates had been held back by circumstances beyond their control—some due to financial constraints, others because of distance or personal obligations.
The previous penalty system, while aimed at encouraging prompt collection, ended up putting additional stress on these individuals.
This new arrangement reflects a softer stance by the university and a willingness to listen to feedback.
Important Deadline: June 2, 2025
If you’re among the affected graduates, this is your chance to sort things out without facing extra costs. However, don’t let the grace period slip by. Once the clock hits June 2, the ₦3,000 weekly fine returns in full swing.
Graduates are strongly advised to take advantage of this limited-time window. Head to the designated certificate collection point on campus before the deadline to avoid any further fees.
