United Organization For Education And Sports Development (UOESD) National Debating Championship 2025
The United Organization for Education and Sports Development (UOESD), in collaboration with the Maurice Akueme Foundation, has launched the 12th edition of the National Debating Championship.
This annual competition gives students across Nigeria a chance to sharpen their reasoning, public speaking, and critical thinking skills.
Participants from primary, secondary, and tertiary schools are invited to present arguments on specially selected topics, reflecting their category.
Debate Topics by Level
- Primary Schools: “Schools should be seen as a better agent of socialisation than family.”
- Secondary Schools: “The Nigerian Government has done more good than harm to its citizens.”
- Tertiary Institutions: “Africa’s underdevelopment is a natural fact, not made by man.”
Participation Guidelines
1. Eligibility
- Open to all schools within Nigeria.
- Includes Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary institutions.
2. Registration Fee
- Absolutely free. Schools are not required to pay any fee to join.
3. Team Composition
- Primary and Secondary Schools must submit one team of three speakers.
- Tertiary Institutions may submit multiple teams.
- Teams may argue for or against the given topic.
4. Speaking Time
- Speaker One: 5 minutes
- Speaker Two: 3 minutes
- Speaker Three: 2 minutes
5. Entry Submission Process
- Each participating team must send one video showing the complete debate session.
- Video must include:
- School name
- Full names of all speakers
- State and contact details

Key Competition Dates
- Video Submission Opens: 30 March 2025
- Entry Deadline: 30 September 2025
- Zonal Stage: October 2025 – March 2026
- National Grand Finale: July 2026

- Gold Medal: 90–100%
- Silver Medal: 80–89%
- Bronze Medal: 70–79%
National Level Rewards
- Cash prizes for the best teams
- Foreign study grants:
- Undergraduate support for secondary school winners
- Postgraduate support for tertiary school winners
- Trophies in gold, silver, and bronze
- Plaques for outstanding teams
- Certificates for all teams reaching qualification thresholds
- Best Speaker Awards in each category
- Best Debating School Award for the overall top six schools
