North-Eastern University Gombe Gets NUC Approval For 12 Academic Programmes

North-Eastern University, Gombe—formerly known as Pen Resource University—has announced that all twelve of its undergraduate programmes submitted for accreditation have been granted full approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Founded in 2022, the university marked its first official accreditation cycle in 2024 with exceptional results.

According to details shared by the institution’s management, all 12 academic programmes presented to the NUC passed with flying colours, reflecting the school’s “firm dedication to academic excellence and relevance on a national scale.”

The school recorded an average accreditation score of 91.4%, with standout performances across a range of departments.

Breakdown of Accredited Programmes and Scores

  • B.Sc. Business Administration – 99.1%
  • B.Sc. International Relations – 95.4%
  • B.Sc. Accounting – 94.8%
  • B.Sc. Architecture – 94.5%
  • B.Sc. Computer Science – 92.7%
  • B.Sc. Information Technology – 92.7%
  • B.Sc. Public Administration – 89.8%
  • B.Sc. Software Engineering – 89.3%
  • B.Sc. Economics & Development Studies – 88.8%
  • B.Sc. Cyber Security – 88.4%
  • B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry – 87.0%
  • B.Sc. Mass Communication – 84.5%

Recognition from Other Regulatory Bodies

The university isn’t just winning praise from the NUC. Earlier in January 2025, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) paid a visit and left impressed by the institution’s facilities and academic environment.

The result? A notable expansion in the admission quota for the B.NSc. Nursing Science programme.

Likewise, in March 2025, representatives from the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) visited the school for a resource verification inspection.

Their assessment confirmed the university’s capacity to deliver quality education in architecture, reinforcing its standing in the professional community.

Looking Ahead: Programmes Maturing for Future Accreditation

The university has plans in motion for the next phases of accreditation.

In November/December 2025, the following eight programmes will be due for evaluation:

  • B.Sc. Public Health
  • B.Sc. Building
  • B.Sc. Quantity Surveying
  • B.Sc. Environmental Management and Toxicology
  • B.Sc. Petroleum Chemistry
  • B.Sc. Data Science
  • LLB Common Law
  • LLB Common and Islamic Law

By 2026, three more programmes are expected to be ready for NUC assessment:

  • B.MLS. Medical Laboratory Science
  • B.NSc. Nursing Science
  • B.Sc. Procurement Management

Additionally, the university has secured NUC approval to run the following newly introduced courses:

  • B.Sc. Political Science
  • B.Sc. Biotechnology
  • B.Sc. Microbiology
  • B.Sc. Urban & Regional Planning

Admissions into these approved programmes are currently ongoing for the 2025/2026 academic year.
