Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has opened its doors for postgraduate applications for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Who Can Apply? — Admission Requirements
General Requirements
Before anything else, applicants must have at least five O’Level credits, including English Language, from WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or TC II. The credits should come from either one or two sittings, based on the department’s preference.
Specific Programme Requirements
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
You’re eligible if you’ve completed:
- A Bachelor’s degree with at least 1.51 CGPA on a 5-point scale.
- A Higher National Diploma (HND) from a polytechnic or monotechnic with at least a Lower Credit.
Master’s Degree To qualify for a Master’s programme, you’ll need:
- A related Bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 (or 45% from institutions that don’t use CGPA).
- A PGD with a CGPA of 3.00 or above on a 5-point scale.
MPhil/PhD (Pre-PhD) Candidates must hold a Master’s degree and have earned between 3.00 to 3.49 CGPA to be eligible.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) For a direct PhD, the bar is higher. You’ll need:
- A Master’s degree in a related area with a CGPA of at least 3.50, or 60% from non-CGPA institutions.
Duration of Study — How Long It Takes
Depending on the programme and whether you’re going full-time or part-time, here’s a rough idea of how long each option will take:
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD):
- Full-time: 2–3 semesters
- Part-time: 4–6 semesters
PGD in Engineering:
- Full-time: 4–6 semesters
- Part-time: 6–8 semesters
Master’s Degree:
- Full-time: 3–6 semesters
- Part-time: 4–8 semesters
MPhil/PhD:
- Full-time: 2–3 semesters
- Part-time: 3–4 semesters
PhD:
- Full-time: 6–10 semesters
- Part-time: 8–14 semesters
How to Apply — Step-by-Step Instructions
Here’s a simple guide to submitting your application:
- Visit the Application Portal: Head to UNIZIK’s Postgraduate Portal to begin.
- Register and Validate: Fill in your details, submit, and check your email for a validation link.
- Activate Your Account: Use the link in the email to confirm your application number.
- Log In and Pay: Use your application number and email address to log in. Then pay the application fee:
- Local Applicants: Pay via Credo
- International Applicants: Use Paystack
- Fill Out the Form: After payment, complete each section of the application form.
- Print & Send:
- Print out the final Application Form and the Transcript Request Form.
- Mail the transcript form to your previous institution.
- If your current name differs from your academic records, make sure the change is clearly noted.

Soft copies of transcripts must be emailed to the Postgraduate School from your institution’s official email address.
Special Note for PhD Applicants — Submit Your Research Proposal
PhD hopefuls are required to upload a concise research proposal. Keep it under five pages, and make sure it covers the following:
- Your Full Name
- Department and Faculty
- Proposed Research Title (not more than 18 words)
- Background of the Study
- Aim and Objectives
- Methodology
- Expected Results
- References
