Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) Gets NUC’s Approval For 18 New Programmes

Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has received the green light from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to launch 18 new academic programmes.

These programmes, spanning both postgraduate and undergraduate levels, will commence in the 2024/2025 academic session at the university’s main campus.

Highlights of the Approval

The NUC’s decision was formally conveyed in a letter dated 11th December 2024.

This letter, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of NSUK, was signed by Abubakar M. Girei, the Acting Director of Academic Planning.

Newly Approved Postgraduate Programmes

The following postgraduate courses have been approved:

  • Ph.D. in Financial Sector Regulations
  • Ph.D. in Money and Capital Markets
  • Ph.D. in Development Finance
  • M.Sc. in Finance
  • Ph.D. in Finance

These programmes aim to provide in-depth knowledge and research opportunities in the financial sector, fostering expertise in regulatory frameworks and market dynamics.

Newly Approved Undergraduate Programmes

Undergraduate Programmes in Education and Humanities

  • B.Ed. in Early Childhood Education
  • B.Ed. in Primary Education Studies
  • B.A. in History and Diplomatic Studies

Undergraduate Programmes in Science and Technology

  • B.Sc. in Architecture
  • B.Sc. in Building Technology
  • B.Sc. in Data Science
  • B.Sc. in Cyber Security

Undergraduate Programmes in Media and Communication

  • B.Sc. in Broadcasting
  • B.Sc. in Public Relations
  • B.Sc. in Journalism and Media Studies

Undergraduate Programmes in Social Sciences and Analytics

  • B.Sc. in Criminology and Security Studies
  • B.Sc. in Demography and Social Statistics
  • B.Sc. in Statistics and Data Analytics

These courses reflect NSUK’s focus on producing graduates equipped with skills for emerging fields and modern challenges.

NUC’s Resource Verification

The approval process followed a rigorous resource verification exercise conducted by panels from the NUC. These panels evaluated the university’s capacity, including human and material resources, to effectively manage the proposed programmes.
