Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) Gets NUC Approval For 13 Programmes

Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has received the go-ahead from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for thirteen of its programmes following the commission’s October/November 2024 accreditation review.

The outcome of the accreditation was formally communicated to Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, the Vice-Chancellor of NSUK, in a letter signed by Engr. Abraham Chundusu, Acting Director of Accreditation, on behalf of NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu.

A closer look at the report shows that postgraduate and undergraduate programmes across several faculties met the standards required by the commission.

Programmes That Received Accreditation

Here’s a breakdown of the courses that passed the NUC’s rigorous evaluation:

Faculty of Administration (Postgraduate)

• M.Sc. Accounting
• M.Sc. Public Sector Accounting
• Master of Public Sector Accounting
• M.Sc. Public Administration
• Master of Public Administration

All these graduate-level programmes secured Accredited status, indicating they fully meet national academic benchmarks.

Faculty of Education

• B.Sc. (Ed) Biology
• B.Sc. (Ed) Chemistry
• B.Sc. (Ed) Geography
• B.Ed. Educational Management
• B.Sc. (Ed) Integrated Science

Each of these teacher education programmes was granted Full Accreditation, a strong endorsement of the quality of instruction and curriculum.

Faculty of Environmental Science

• B.Sc. Urban and Regional Planning — Full Accreditation

Faculty of Law

• LL.B Common and Islamic Law — Full Accreditation

Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences

• B.Sc. Zoology — Full Accreditation

Faculty of Social Sciences

• B.Sc. Political Science — Full Accreditation

What Does This Mean?

According to the NUC, both Accredited and Full Accreditation statuses are valid for a period of five years. This ensures that students admitted into these programmes can be confident in the value of their education. Their degrees will not only be accepted for job placements but will also hold up for further studies or participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

This milestone is a reflection of the university’s ongoing commitment to raising academic standards and strengthening the quality of its programmes.
