Kwara State University (KWASU) Announces 2024/2025 Convocation Ceremony

Kwara State University (KWASU) has announced its 12th convocation ceremony for the award of first and postgraduate degrees as well as the presentation of prizes.

The event, a significant occasion in the university’s calendar, will take place on Saturday, 14th December 2024.

The week leading up to the main ceremony will feature an array of activities designed to celebrate academic and extracurricular excellence.

Schedule of KWASU Convocation Events

Day 1: Tuesday, 10th December 2024

• Vice Chancellor’s Press Briefing
  • Venue: Muhammadu Buhari Main Library, KWASU Campus, Malete
  • Time: 11:00 a.m.
• Official Opening of Exhibition
  • Venue: Muhammadu Buhari Main Library, KWASU Campus, Malete
  • Time: Immediately after the press briefing
• Football Match (Academic Staff vs. Non-Teaching Staff)
  • Venue: University Stadium Complex, Malete
  • Time: 3:00 p.m.

Day 2: Thursday, 12th December 2024

• Convocation Lecture
  • Lecturer: Emeritus Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, OON, FAS
  • Topic: The Optimum Utilisation of Nigeria’s Energy Resources for the Sustainable Growth and Development of the Nation
  • Venue: Mini Convocation Arena
  • Time: 11:00 a.m.
• Convocation Play
  • Title: Mojagbe by Ahmed Yerima
  • Performed by: Department of Performing Arts and Film Studies
  • Venue: Ultra-Modern Performing Arts Building, KWASU Campus, Malete
  • Time: 11:00 a.m.

Day 3: Saturday, 14th December 2024

• Main Convocation Ceremony
  • Activity: Award of Degrees and Presentation of Prizes
  • Venue: Ultra-Modern Performing Arts Building, KWASU Campus, Malete
  • Time: 10:00 a.m.
  • Arrival: All guests must be seated by 9:00 a.m.

Important Information for Graduands

Graduand Confirmation

Graduands for the 2023/2024 session should confirm their eligibility on the KWASU website.

Invitation Cards and Academic Gowns

• Distribution begins Thursday, 12th December 2024, immediately after the convocation lecture.
• Each graduand may invite one guest only.

Convocation Charges

• Undergraduate Graduands: ₦35,000
  • Includes gown rental, certificate scroll, alumni fee, and certificate.
• Postgraduate Graduands: ₦60,000
  • Covers the same items as undergraduate fees.
• Certificate Collection: Certificates will be available after the ceremony upon submission of proof of payment and clearance certificates.

Rehearsals and Attendance

• A rehearsal for the academic procession is scheduled for Friday, 13th December 2024, at 2:30 p.m.
• Attendance is mandatory for all graduands. Proper academic attire must be worn, including the approved gown and formal or traditional dress.

Convocation Day Requirements

Graduands must arrive on campus by 7:00 a.m. for the academic procession, which begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. Late arrivals will not be allowed entry into the convocation arena.

Gown Return and Penalties

Hired academic gowns must be returned to the Faculty Officers no later than Friday, 20th December 2024. A late return fee of ₦500 per day will apply for gowns returned after this deadline.
